  • Office overview

Founded in 1996, Bain L.A. is centrally located in West Los Angeles (Century City) on the top two floors of 1901 Avenue of the Stars, just down the block from Fox Studios. We serve clients throughout southern California and the western United States and across most industries, including media & entertainment, consumer packaged goods, healthcare, technology & telecom, private equity and industrials.

In addition to our case work, we take significant pride in our community involvement. Our office holds an annual United Way campaign where L.A. Bainies have participated in eating contests, bought balloons for fellow Bainies, and held an auction consisting of goods donated by Bainies. Recently, we also completed pro bono projects for GLAAD and City Year, and hosted Inspire - a volunteer nonprofit organization offering free and low-cost strategy and operations consulting to youth and education nonprofits.

But, to borrow from the style of the Zagat guides, you should also listen to what the consultants have to say about Bain L.A.

People come here for the "family atmosphere" and to work in an office that is "small enough" where you will "get to know managers and partners who aren't on your cases." While the work is "fascinating" and you will "learn new ways to change and improve corporations and to help people develop,"  the biggest difference between L.A. and other offices "is how connected people are between classes" and "outdoor activities in February." But watch out for the rec room - ping pong is the "game of choice" and "tournaments get quite heated." You never know when a partner "who is actually quite good!" might stop by to "discuss the latest business developments in healthcare while battling in a game to 21."

In short, like the city around it, Bain L.A. boasts a diverse culture with a strong business base and an entertainment-inspired social scene. And, like Los Angeles, Bain L.A. is proud of its history and its people.

  • Our social impact

In 2009, Bain joined forces with Green Dot Public Schools, the largest charter management organization (CMO) in Los Angeles serving ~8000 high-need secondary students in response to failing schools in the LA Unified School District (LAUSD).  Green Dot has grown rapidly and achieved national attention over the last 10 years, but is facing increased budgetary pressures from both the school district and the philanthropic community.

Bain's role in this partnership was threefold: to help Green Dot develop a strategic growth plan with focus on containing cost, to define the best structure for individual school offices, and to build management dashboards that demonstrate the success of the Green Dot model across a range of key metrics.

In 2010, Bain expanded the Green Dot relationship by building our office-wide Community Impact Day (CID) around a revitalization project at their South LA school.  CID is one of the most popular events in the Bain LA office, where the office shuts down and all employees head out to various volunteering sites across the city.  We spent the day painting, planting, fixing, and beautifying a school in dire need of some passion and care - ultimately creating a much more pleasant learning environment for the kids.
