Corporate environmental impact

Green Team Innovation: Learn how two passionate consultants in New York made their office green and watched their idea spread to Bain's global network and beyond

At Bain we encourage our people at all levels to contribute and change the firm. Reducing Bain's environmental impact is a great example of this.

Bain's sustainability initiatives were founded at a grass-roots level by the formation of "Green teams" in each office. These teams focus on reducing our resource consumption and reducing our carbon footprint.

Resource consumption

Green teams have pioneered recycling within each office and have shifted procurement to reusable, recyclable office products and caterings supplies. They have also reduced paper use and printing requirements and have cut down on plastics consumption by replacing bottled water with water fountains.

Carbon footprint

Green teams worldwide have promoted the use of office activity sensors to control internal lighting and the shutdown of PCs overnight. Many teams have encouraged a switch to hybrid cars for client travel and incentives for commuting using public transport. We have also invested in video-conferencing technology which reduces the need to fly to meet with clients—a major contributor to our carbon footprint.
