It was very gratifying to have a significant social impact on Boston youths.

First and foremost, I felt and still feel comfortable with Bain employees from AC to Partner. Bain's culture is unique in having extremely talented individuals that are modest while being completely down-to-earth, friendly, and fun.
I also see Bain as the most differentiated career opportunity among strategy consulting - with PEG and international opportunities. I've participated in both and they have been experiences that will help differentiate my Bain career as well as any long-term career option I pursue.
One of my passions at Bain is recruiting; I really enjoy taking part in school events to help mentor prospective ACs and Consultants.
I also enjoy mentoring at Bain both upward and downward. My mentor has provided significant support towards an international transfer and overall as a senior resource that I am very comfortable going to confidentially for advice. I have also enjoyed mentoring ACs and new Consultants, helping to shape their careers.
Lastly, I co-led Bain's relationship with a not-for-profit organization in Boston. It was very gratifying to have a significant social impact on Boston youths while I was also on active cases.
My favorite case
My favorite recent case was on a diligence in PEG. This was simply because my team was excellent to work with despite some very heavy hours. Everyone from the partner to the ACs kept an upbeat attitude, joked regularly and in the end we delivered a superior recommendation (not to buy) to our client.
Context for the case: The client was a PE firm with exclusive bidding on a leader in metal buildings and components. Key questions for the case team were: the growth potential, whether the target's revenue growth would be met, viability of new product lines, and how this market would react to the real estate bubble.
I learned a tremendous amount from the case simply from the coaching I received from the CTL and Manager (on my first PEG case). I added significant value by running and 'owning' the primary analysis/interviews. It was personally rewarding to drive the answer on the target's new product lines which informed the PE client on a multi-billion dollar deal.
My personal results story
My most gratifying personal achievement at Bain was on a recent technology case. It was a 6 month implementation for a technology client that had already worked with a Bain team for 6 months prior.
The challenge was to build credibility with very senior clients quickly as they had developed connections with the previous Bain team and preferred to work with the existing consultants.
I overcame this by first building credibility with direct reports to the senior clients. I would advise them before large meetings and prepared pre-work to make sure both Bain teams and client counterparts were precise in front of senior executives.
After this,I was able to work with my Bain case management to develop a more prominent role in meetings. After having the priviliege of presenting, a number of time, in front of the executives they began to value my contribution.
In the end, I was able to establish a strong rapport with my client counterpart and the senior client executives. After leaving for transfer to London and thus rolling off the case, the client commented to a Bain partner how professional and outstanding of a job I was able to do in tough circumstances. It was very satisfying to have played a small part in continuing Bain's relationship with this key client and I still keep in contact with my client map today.
A final thought
Go where you are most comfortable, personally and professionally.
For me, the most surprising thing at Bain is the amount of support you get to succeed. If you have a difficult case experience or you struggle with a workstream there are multiple outlets among senior management to help guide you to a better experience or coach you to succeed. This support, I feel, is unique to Bain and it is one of our core principles.
