  • Why Bain?

My parents tease me because when I was little, I began every other sentence with "I was wondering." All these years later, it's no different. At Bain I have the opportunity every day to work with incredibly bright people and to think about solving my clients' most challenging problems. However, unlike an inquisitive5 year old, Bain isn't content with wondering about big issues - we drive to results. For me this combination of big ideas and results focus makes Bain a great place to launch or advance a career.

  • My passion

I love the moment when the team has covered the white boards with ideas and it clicks - we've overcome the obstacle! Our clients don't hire us to solve easy problems - it is never a matter of running the standard analysis or entering different numbers in the same old model. To be sure we have proven methodologies and approaches, but we know that every case is different and requires fresh thinking. This is the most exhilarating and most rewarding part of the job.

Outside of Bain I focus on family and food. My favorite times are cooking new recipes at home with my wife, or discovering new restaurants and doing things I never would have thought of - sweet corn chowder garnished with lemon segments.weird, but wonderful.

  • My favorite case

I was recently part of a team assessing the potential for a novel medical device. The trials were promising, but there were questions about whether physicians and patients would accept the device. Demonstrating early successes in the real world would be crucial to building traction. To facilitate this we helped the company better understand the relevant subspecialist populations, and the factors that would either drive adoption or relegate the device to becoming another interesting idea someone once tried. Our work not only benefitted our client, but also stands to benefit the patients who may one day receive this treatment.

  • My personal results story

The first workstream I ran by myself was assessing the performance of my client's offshore administration facility (essentially internal outsourcing). The facility had been built based on a series of assumptions, but was failing to live up to expectations. Over the course of a number of weeks, I diagnosed the reasons for the under performance and worked with the client to develop action plans to turn the economics of the center around. By the end of the project the client had a clear path to improving performance and had began implementing my recommendations.
