  • Why Bain?

I'd worked in PR for four years before business school, which is an industry known for its lively culture - and it didn't come close to sense of community, passion and fun that encompasses Bain.  From big events like the Bain Band concert to everyday moments like chatting with my baymates, I can say from experience that Bain has an unparalleled culture in the corporate world.

  • My passion

The media industry has always excited me, and I've been lucky enough to work on digital strategy for a major media firm in my first year at Bain.  The work is relevant, creative and analytic at the same time - which is perfect for me.  Even better, Bain has a robust tech/media/telecom practice, so there is a good chance I'll get to continue to deepen my exposure to the industry.

Outside the office, I love music, sports, photography, apartment design/layout and coming up with hypothetical entrepreneurial ventures (which usually combine the high tech and creative spaces).  There are so many Baineis who share my passions that it's easy to find someone to bounce ideas and recommendations off of!

  • My favorite case

I recently worked on an incredibly fast-paced private equity due diligence in the healthcare technology space.  Our client originally had just two weeks to place a bid for the target, but a day after we started the bid deadline was moved up again -- leaving us with only eight days to develop a solid perspective on a business that was totally unfamiliar to me.  That's when I truly appreciated the depth of expertise we have throughout the Bain system, as well as these experts' willingness to make themselves available in order to ensure our team would succeed.

At the end of the eight days, I looked back and realized that I'd just become an expert on a technology I'd never heard of before, I'd managed an AC for the first time, and I'd contributed to a team's work product that was so thoughtfully composed that our client took our advice immediately.

  • My personal results story

Working at Bain has taught me to structure a question that may feel nebulous at first, identify and execute the right analytics needed to solve each piece, and most importantly, to apply my business judgment to be sure the answer makes sense and addresses the client's real concern.  Although I've answered questions, run numbers and worked with clients before joining Bain, learning to seamlessly integrate these in a variety of contexts feels like a real achievement.

  • My perspective on diversity at Bain

Bain's investment in diversity across dimensions is truly impressive.  The firm deeply believes that a wide variety of perspectives are critical to optimally solving the toughest business problems.  That value permeates through recruiting, talent development, internal and external communications, which makes me proud to say that Bain really "walks the walk."

  • A final thought

Bain is a truly unique firm on many levels - from its strong culture to its focus on ongoing talent development to its outperforming client results.  In hindsight, I found it difficult to internalize what makes Bain the special place it is during recruiting.  It's one of those things you just need to experience to understand.
