After my MBA I decided I wanted to pursue a career in Management Consulting. Of all the consulting firms which I researched and interacted with, it was clear to me that Bain was the best fit. Bain combines a unique mix of hard, focused and pragmatic work with a great team atmosphere and support from your peers and managers. For me it was an easy choice: I not only feel part of a great global team, both performing and supportive but I also have the opportunity to work on very interesting assignments where we really have the chance to make a difference.
What I really enjoy about my work at Bain is working collaboratively with the team and the client to deliver results. Interacting with very proficient and talented individuals both in Bain and the client is really enriching and everyday becomes a true learning experience. Furthermore, if you manage to translate your learnings into impactful insights for the client, the job is truly enjoyable.
Outside of the office, I love to go sailing and try to do it as often as possible during the weekends and holidays. In fact, many of my colleagues share the same interest so it's a great opportunity to exchange sailing experiences.
My favorite case
When I joined Bain, I was staffed in a global post merger integration case involving two large multinational companies in the consumer goods industry. I was involved in the work stream responsible for the integration in Spain and Portugal and we worked hand by hand with the client team to deliver the projected financial results.
It was a great case because of three key factors: a great opportunity to learn about the consumer goods industry, the possibility to work with top management in key strategic issues and the whole team dynamics we managed to develop with the client.
My personal results story
During the post merger integration case, I was fully responsible for the Sales organization integration workstream, directly interacting with the senior leadership of both companies in the countries. I had to set up the workplan, organize workshops and drive the client team to deliver the expected synergies, which we managed to surpass. Furthermore, I was responsible for developing key models to support our work. This experience was later translated into other countries.
A final thought
When looking at different career and job opportunities I believe it is very important to take a close look at the fit dimension. Not only the job, responsibilities and career prospects should be appealing but you should feel comfortable working with the people you meet during all your job search interactions. If you like working with them, you will enjoy your job more and will perform better.
