  • Why Bain?

    From a professional standpoint, I was impressed by Bain's ability to use data in an actionable manner that resonated with their clients.   I had always picture strategic consulting as high level thinkers without much substance, but Bain was very different in their approach.

    From a people standpoint, I have never been more comfortable around co-workers in my professional career.  I had an offer with another firm in DC and Bain in Atlanta.  My wife and I were set on living in DC so I didn't really consider Bain very highly when I started the recruiting process.  However, as I got to know the people and understood their approach to business problems, I realized it was a great fit.  Going into my sell weekend with Bain, I was 99% sure I was going to choose a firm in DC.  However, after spending literally 30 minutes in the Atlanta office, my mind was made up that Bain was the right fit for me.

  • My passion

    At Bain, my passion has centered on getting exposed to as many industries as possible.  I love the idea of being presented a problem in an industry I have no experience in and "getting smart" so that I can speak with the client.

    In addition to core case work, I also feel very strongly about recruiting at Bain.  I love going to different schools and sharing my experiences at Bain and how strongly I feel about the firm.

    Outside of work, my biggest passion is my family.  Consulting and work/life balance can exist and I have found that Bain cares about their employee's balance in life and is constantly monitoring work/life metrics. 

  • My favorite case

    I have been lucky that I have had excellent experiences in all my cases.  However, I would say my favorite case was a recent health care client where we defined their 5 year strategy.

    Health care was not an area I had any previous knowledge about going into the case, and I found the problems/issues our client faced to be fascinating and dynamic.  The number of different factors that influenced their decisions was a great  case study, and I also had a great team who I really enjoyed working with.

  • My personal results story

    At our health care client, an AC and I examined the quote process for pricing certain packages out to potential customers.  As it turned out, the quote process was very manual and took a very long time to complete.  As a result, the client was losing business simply because customers were making decisions before they ever receive a price from our client.

    The AC and I examined the overall process and we were able to map out best practices in each step of the process and what could be achieved.  At first, the client was skeptical of the improvements we presented, but within a few months they were in full implementation mode of our changes.  It was amazing to see our recommendations implemented in a quick fashion and the client was very grateful for the results. 

  • A final thought

    If you care about a job that will continually push you to new heights and never let down in terms of professional development, I highly recommend Bain.  Every time I feel like I am comfortable in this job, I am presented with a new challenge in a different industry or different function.  I never know what the next day will bring and I simply love the excitement I have for each new case.
