  • Why Bain?

Bain was an easy choice for me.  The summer before senior year I realized that I wanted to do exciting impactful things in the real world but that I was woefully unprepared to do so just yet. I wanted and needed a job, right out of undergrad, which would help me develop, so that I would be able to do the great and exciting things I desired.  A job that would provide learning, mentorship, risks, and rewards.  The Bain Associate Consultant position was the best of all the opportunities presented at Notre Dame.

The AC position offers an absurd amount of opportunities to work with senior clients and learn from brilliant colleagues.  The fast paced culture combined with the superb training programs ensured that I would super charge my development.  The ability to continue educating myself outside of Notre Dame was very attractive.

The Team atmosphere at Bain and Best Firm to Work for ratings further enhanced my interest.  The Bainie credo of "A Bainie never lets another Bainie fail" really struck a chord with me.

Bain was my first choice because it was the post-undergraduate opportunity that best combined my future ambitions with my present desires.  Bain offered a great balance of explore now and build for later.

  • My passion

At Bain I'm involved in quite a few passions. In addition to the cool and exciting case work there are plenty of extra-professional involvements which Bain calls "Extra-10 percents".  Volunteer work was a great outlet for me at Notre Dame and it's proven so at Bain as well.  Through Bain I have: taught business education classes to 2nd graders, implemented Green programs to improve the office's footprint, convinced 10 people to donate over 8000 canned food goods, and take a preparation class for being on a non-profit board.  In fact, there are more opportunities to get involved in "extra-10 percent" activities than I have been able to take advantage of.  Bain's let me explore my passions of social activism.

Outside of the office I enjoy traveling, sports, and reading.  While pursuing great professional opportunities I've still been able to enjoy my hobbies and personal activities. I've traveled internationally and played in Bain soccer.

  • My favorite case

My favorite recent case was an IT Sourcing Strategy project.  A Fortune 50 retailer engaged us to revamp their IT organization.  The client's IT department was dysfunctional in many ways and those dysfunctions were being exacerbated by their ineffective reliance on outsourcing vendors.  My team was tasked with 1) creating a new IT sourcing strategy to align the IT department with business value, 2) reducing the number of vendors, and 3) increasing the efficiency of the IT sourcing department.  Our work was impressive in its scope and results.  We were able to gain organization support and significantly improve the strategic use of IT vendors.  The benefits translated in reduced costs, improved effectiveness, and reduced complexity.

  • A final thought
