  • Why Bain?

People, professionalism and the focus on results are what  attracted me the most when I joined Bain. After 4 years of experience at my first job, I wanted to sharpen my business skills. I wanted to be a person who caould add significant value to society/ businesses with thought leadership. Bain's culture and people whom I met during the recruiting process best fit with these career goals of mine. Bain has been provided me an enormous learning opportunity over the course of my career from AC to senior consultant, and makes me feel proud of being a professional management consultant

  • My passion

My passion at Bain includes both consulting projects and office responsibilities. Among consulting projects, turnaround/ transformation projects are my favorites. Japan is facing great needs for a turnaround as a society - aging population, shrinking domestic market, lack of global brands, etc. As a business professional, it is a very challenging but honorable opportunity for me to help the clients with those needs.

Other than consulting projects, I am leading a broad range of office responsibilities including marketing, recruiting and social contribution. Particularly on social contribution, I have been leading our local activities in Tokyo since 2009, providing consulting supports for 2-3 NPOs every year. Under the global platform to pursue social contribution (Bain Cares), Bain gives me enormous support and encouragement for to lead this initiative.

Outside of the office, travel and family are the greatest passions of mine. My family is proud of me working at Bain and my 2 daughters believe that I can solve whatever difficult questions there are in the world. I have to keep learning  in order to meet their expectations as well!

  • My favorite case

My favorite case was a full transformation project for a well-known Japanese tech conglomerate. The client situation was very challenging but typical for Japan - declining revenue in shrinking profit pool, too many businesses to manage, lack of management focus/ strategy, etc. After a quick but holistic diagnostic process, we told the tough messages to the client management team, but still could develop deep and wide relationship with them. All Bain team members including myself had to stretch a lot to develop sound solutions and lead clients. However, the case gave us very rich learning opportunities and made us feel proud of leading such a bold business transformation process.

  • My personal results story

I am very proud of my past Bain projects where, in most cases, we could deliver quite tangible results to the clients. The cumulative profit impact that my case teams have delivered to the historical client companies is more than $100 million. The most notable example would be the project for a Japanese construction company, where we improved the quality of their sales and profitability. While all the competitors experienced the revenue and profitability shrinkage, the client company only improved both of them and increased the profit by ~$50 million.
