  • Why Bain?

I chose Bain because of its top-tier reputation, and also its culture. I had a number of good friends who were already working there - they all spoke incredibly highly of the caliber of clients, training and people, and I felt that it was a place where I would fit in well.

  • My passion

My passion at Bain is seeing more junior colleagues develop and learn - I have four mentees and take enormous pride in seeing them grow in experience and capability.

Outside of the office, my passion is for art - I have an art history background from college.

  • My favorite case

When I chose San Francisco for my short-term transfer, I was very excited about the opportunity to gain experience in the tech space. My first two projects in the SF Private Equity ringfence were both in this area - looking at domain name registration and web hosting services. Both projects were fascinating - we were helping our clients to develop a view on some really exciting questions (what might Google do? What might Facebook do? How is this industry really going to develop over the next few years? What about emerging markets?). The final 'readouts' to both funds felt less like readouts and more like conversations where we really were playing the role of advisor, responding to their questions and debating the issues - a very satisfying experience.

  • A final thought

At the end of a tough private equity due diligence (a complicated industry and tight timeframes), we went to the client for the final readout. Seeing a client impressed by a piece of work (as these clients were) always feels good - but what was really great about this readout was that at the end, the lead client went around the table and asked everyone from Bain - from the senior manager right down to the most junior AC, whether they would do the deal. That was really cool to see - not only because he was interested in our individual views, but seeing that even the newest AC who had joined the PEG ringfence just weeks earlier already had a perspective which she was confident enough to share.
