Mentoring & coaching
We are serious about developing a coaching culture
At Bain, we strive to develop coaching relationships along multiple dimensions. From the moment you walk in the door, you are matched with a number of people who will support you.
You'll be paired with a colleague upon your arrival. Typically, this is someone who understands your new role and can informally support your transition into life at Bain. Many associate consultants and consultants have found that colleagues are invaluable resources as they begin their first case. Many strong friendships are formed from these colleague relationships.
You'll also be matched with a mentor. A senior consultant or manager usually is directly responsible for your professional development. We pair you with a mentor who is more experienced and tenured, has a broad perspective on your progression, and will act as a sounding board for short-term case goals as well as long-term career goals.
You'll receive informal coaching from each of your case team members. You will have an enormous wealth of knowledge and support at your fingertips working in close-knit teams with partners, managers and consulting staff. Coaching relationships in the case team are an essential part of progression and learning at Bain.
Regular feedback will help you reach your full potential
At Bain, your development is closely monitored to ensure that you have the best opportunities to reach your full potential. Bain's review system will help you to identify and fully use your strengths and improve upon your weaknesses. You'll receive a review of the work you have done after each project, in addition to semi-annual evaluations. Of course, feedback is not limited to these formal processes and you will receive, and also give, regular informal feedback. Your performance and personal development plan will be discussed openly and honestly. The goal is to provide you with the means to advance to the next level.
